How to grow potatoes from seed. Potato seed treatment. What is the best scheme for sowing seeds?

Hello, dear readers!

Let's talk about the multiplication of potatoes, and not just about choosing good tubers, but about how to grow a super potato superelite from seeds. Have you noticed that the yields have become much smaller than before, and diseases only increase from year to year. And if my grandfather still advised to take potatoes from another field, even from a neighbor, for renovation, then in our time this advice does not work anymore. My neighbor also has potatoes. Even in the comments the reader wrote to me that no one wants to plant potatoes, because they do not grow.

How and at what distance are potatoes planted in a row?

The saddle-bird carries a box with root tubers and ranks them in the middle of the southern slope of the tiers with sprouts at a distance of 20 cm for early varieties  and 25 cm for the average early. Deep planting is not useful for early potatoes. They are planted in shallow water, in the upper layer of soil with a higher temperature.

Is it possible to plant potatoes on a flat surface?

Potatoes can also be planted on a flat surface.

When potatoes start growing

What you need to know about the pots of potato plants. After about 15 days, it is faked a second time, but deeper. Together with the second trench, the plants rotate. Before the potato covered the edges and began to bloom, the third mowing and the second stroke occur. Some farmers believe that high-molecular plants will form more and more tubers. However, high friction interferes with the proper temperature, water and air conditions of the soil and therefore should not be practiced.

Spring comes and in my head, maybe this potato may well, I sow everything with flowers - we will buy it!

But then you remember your fall - you boil it, but it crumbles - delicious ... And you shop - cook, cook - neither taste nor appearance. I am going to plant potatoes again, hoping that the year will be a good one and something will grow. But I do not want more. I will grow potatoes from seed to always be with the crop.

How to polish early potatoes?

This soil moisture can be provided approximately. During the early spring drought, 1-2 waterings and 2-3 irrigations in an intensive pipe are applied to the pipe.

When does early potato harvest begin and what are the average yields of this potato

This is usually done in the second half of May in southern Bulgaria. Production time is also determined for higher returns. Throw the potatoes carefully so that they do not hurt. They are cleared of soil without washing, sorting and styling. Place them indoors so that they do not turn green when exposed to sunlight.

How to grow from seed by yourself at home

It's not so hard to grow your own super super elite at home.

But maybe not everyone knows exactly what this very elite is, and the super elite, let's clarify.

What is the elite and super elite potatoes

  • 1 year - If you take potato seeds and grow them in the first year of the nodule, not necessarily very small, they will be called miniclub. It is completely clean from disease varietal material.
  • 2 year - When planting them in the ground will grow real bushes with a good harvest and these tubers are called super super elite
  • 3 year - We leave them for seed and for next year  we get super elite.
  • 4 year - The same potato is just   elite.
  • 5 year - The first reproduction of the elite.
  • 6 year - The second reproduction of the elite.

You can buy it, of course. But where is the guarantee that they will sell you the names of a mini-club or a super super elite of a sort, and not a trifle that you only had to send for animal feed. In appearance they can not be distinguished!

How does a potato grow and what is a fight with it?

With the growth of potatoes, growth is weakened, the leaves and stalks are disfigured and rot prematurely. Tubers become very small and polluted and then die. The root cause of potato crops is viral diseases - mosaic, foliage, foliage, black and yellow pox.

Wrestling. Useful material for planting, produced in mountain agriculture. Locals were cultivated and used by hundreds of thousands of Indians, and possibly thousands of years before the discovery of America. In China, they were known at the beginning of a new era. Their distribution in European countries begins after the discovery of America. Batteries today are widely distributed in the southern parts of America, Africa, India, China, Japan, the Malay Archipelago, the islands of the Pacific Ocean, southern Europe and southern parts of Russia and Ukraine.

Another question - where to get the seeds?

You can buy in the store, but take the varietal seeds, not hybrids. And better collect the seeds from their best bushes of potatoes. After flowering, they form small tomatoes. From them and collect the seeds, like from tomatoes. Read more further.

In our country they grow only in the southern regions of the country - Ivaylovgrad, Haskovo and others. Batteries are grown for root vegetables. They are used for baked or cooked food. They are also used to make various types of cans, mashed potatoes, starch, alcohol, bitter flour, and more. For potato cultivation, well-drained, flat or slightly inclined to the south are selected with clay-sandy soil and deep ground. Territory preparation begins with deep autumn plowing.

Growing is done by pre-treatment of seedlings from the kidneys. This should begin about 6 weeks before sowing seedlings. For the production of seedlings of 1 ha, about 30 kg of root crops are required. They are planted in pre-prepared warm greenhouses so that they do not touch each other. Immediately after planting root crops, the greenhouse is watered. Before planting, they are disinfected for 5-10 minutes in a weak sublimation solution. Landing occurs in early March in a warm greenhouse on the sand.

I think for the sake of good harvest  in the next five to six years, one season can be done with potato seedlings. You will find many different ways of growing mini-clubs in this article from the very interesting blog “Ural Garden”.

Watering is carried out with warm water. We can not allow. Two days before planting, seedlings are quenched by removing the chassis. Planting in the open air is carried out after the soil has warmed up sufficiently - in the middle of May. The distance between and in rows depends on the diversity and fertility of the soil. Immediately after planting, the seedlings are watered. Caring for vegetation consists in regular tillage and not very abundant watering. Soil cessation stops after the plants cover the surface in between. Further care is to regularly remove weeds and watering.

How to grow potatoes from seed

Almost the same as seedlings and, they are similar. But there are differences.

Here I ask to pay attention - do not land in open ground, a confusion with shelter from frost and not always you can be on time at a site to shelter from frost or vice versa open from heat. Borrowing a greenhouse is also not an option, there are already tomatoes in line.

Root vegetables are removed when they mature. It is known on the surface of slices of mature roots, but it dries quickly, and in an immature condition it remains wet for a long time, and also darkens. Removal is done manually or with a plow, very carefully. Production is further sorted in the field. 3-5 tons of root crops are produced from decara. Dry and ventilated rooms should be selected for storage, in which a certain temperature and humidity can be maintained.

Storing stones or potatoes should be avoided, as batteries do not withstand low temperatures and high air humidity. Saplings are grown in cultivation facilities. For very early production, seeds are sown in warm greenhouses from late January to February 10, early and mid-February. For medium-early production of green and red pepper for grinding the seeds are transformed from March 1 to March 20. Under 12 degrees, plant growth stops, and at temperatures above 35 degrees, the colors and fruits fall out.

Therefore, organize a small greenhouse for potato seedlings, and leave the seedlings there for the whole summer for the first year. Of course, if you have grown a lot, you can plant it in the ground, but you need to protect it from frost. The greenhouse is also good because it is easier to make fertile, light soil needed in the first year.

7. For seedlings will be useful if you are bushes. And you have less worries with watering, weeding, and the earth will not overheat.

The root system is also sensitive to the warmth of the soil. It develops best at values from 18 to 22 degrees. If you do not provide regular watering of the peppers, then the plants may also die. If the humidity is low and the temperature is high, the colors may disappear. Before the start of fruiting, the pepper does not make great demands on water, but then, especially in July-August, you need to water it regularly. Piper needs fertile soils. They should be spruce, meadow-cinnamon and cinnamon forests, deep with a rich content of humus and nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium.

8. In general, at a young age, potatoes are vulnerable and tender, so fussing with them will be more than with seedlings of tomatoes. But I am sure that all this will justify itself by further harvest.

From the personal experience of readers

To dispel your doubts completely, I will give an example of readers from the Vologda region.

“If you decide to grow a healthy potato, then it is not necessary to buy planting tubers in the store. You can grow your own super-elite at home. To do this, collect after flowering and ripening potato seeds. Do you like the variety. They are best collected before harvest when the seeds begin to separate from the bush. Then in a dark and well-ventilated room, they must ripen to a mild state. Separate the seeds, wash, dry. Then next year in mid-February or early March, drive them out through the seedlings. According to the scheme 10 to 10 cm. Seedlings plant out according to the weather in mid-May. In the open ground should be planted seedlings according to the scheme of 50 cm by 1 meter. If you have grown seedlings correctly, the bush in the middle of June will be a meter in diameter! Harvest according to the potato variety. The magician gave 40 potatoes in the bush! From 100 to 150 gr. Do not forget to spud at least 3 times over the summer and water depending on the weather. And at the end of the summer you will have a super super elite of your favorite brand. At the same time free from disease.» – tell Michael and Larissa.

The soil must also be waterproof, damp, heated quickly to work well with the roots. You should not plant pepper after pepper or other potato crops to which it belongs. It develops better after pouring alfalfa and mixtures of herbs. Good precursors are the Bean, Pumpkin, and Wheat plants. It can also be grown on beds with dual-line planting patterns. Saplings are exported outdoors after the risk of late spring frosts began in southern Bulgaria after April 20 in super-early and early Polish production and after May 5, on average, at an early stage.

  • Growing sorrel from seeds
  • We grow potatoes from seeds.

The end of March, the 28th, the seedlings of all the vegetables have been prepared, some of the seedlings have already been taken out to the greenhouse, the rest is preparing to move. Under the lamps are only tomatoes and all sorts of flowers. All the trouble behind and you can safely engage in growing potato seed. This year, seedlings of potatoes from white sprouts have already been prepared; planting material, it is already in the greenhouse where our potato sprouts are gaining strength and are preparing for the move to the “warm” garden bed. Sowing   potato seed I will produce seedlings without using soil, we save space, and it is very convenient with this method to control how seedlings develop and transplantation will be done without problems. It can be sown in the ground. But I will not produce a picking (pinching the main root), since the potato root system is very nutty, it is not quite clear which root is the most important in the end. But the stalk will certainly grow one. But it's time to sow potato seeds!

A week after this landing occurs. During the growing season, the pepper is fed with nitrogen fertilizers, half of the quantity is imported during the first grinding, and the second half - at the beginning of mass fertilization. Ilona - medium grade early potato, high yield, medium tubers - oval with an elongated oval shape, pale yellow surfaces of the skin of the eye, white core - spilling very tasty, quickly forming leveled tubers using a universal one. How are seed potatoes grown?

Just like a tomato grows. Seeds are sown on seedlings, especially for early varieties and subsequent planting. And the distance within the order already depends on the purpose of the crop. If we want seed potatoes  the next year, we plant them from ten to twenty centimeters between plants. If we want to harvest for consumption, we plant at a distance of thirty centimeters. The advantage of seed potato cultivation technology is the purity of disease transfer with seedlings and low cost of starting material.

What is needed for landless sowing seedlings of potatoes.

Further description can be considered as a photo report on how to grow potatoes from biological seeds. Of course the biological themselves potato seedsyou can buy them, or they, the benefit of such seeds are already quite common in the shops selling vegetables and flowers in the seeds and appear after flowering on potato plants. I did not buy the seeds, but I picked them in the fall from my most powerful potato bushes.

And then it will be clear how many of the above properties are. Travel to Topinambur in Europe passed through the famous Colombian expedition, that is, from the North American Indians across the ocean. In the Czech Republic, strawberries saved a lot of people from starvation during the Thirty Years War, when this vegetable spread from Germany.

The unusual name "Jewish potato" was obtained in Italy, where they are called gyrasol or Jerusalem artichokes. The stem of some varieties ends in a small inflorescence, so crumbly beds are really consumed as artichokes.

Potatoes are small green berries, which resemble small tomatoes in form. Inside these fruits are necessary for biological reproduction potato seeds. Also, for planting such potato seedlings in a landless way, we will need a sheet of thick paper, like the one in which matches are packed, for example. Thread, plastic bag and a pair - three simple price tags. Inventory ready, proceed to sowing potato seeds.

Topinambu is grown where potatoes do not work

Jerusalem artichokes grow to a respectable height of two meters, and their flowers and leaves are very similar to sunflowers. Seeds ripen only in climatic warm areas, so they grow in our conditions exclusively vegetatively - from tubers. Jerusalem artichoke can be identified by colors.

Jerusalem artichoke is resistant to frost and drought, but is more demanding than potatoes. In more dry conditions, although flowering, tubers are small and unsuitable for consumption. Higher yields in lumps, manure and industrial fertilizers enriched with soil.

All we need is for landless sowing of potato seeds.

Spray our sheets of paper until full wet. We give a couple of minutes of paper to thoroughly soak in water. Then we spread the seeds along the edge of our leaf.

Tubers are planted in the early rows in rows to a depth of ten centimeters and buckled thirty-five to fifty centimeters. You can use the high portion of Jerusalem artichoke as protection for thin or thin plants. In this case, leave them in a group or double strings. A wall topinambur can also serve as a hedge.

In the absence of tubers, Jerusalem artichoke can be grown from tubers, which are cut into pieces, but so that each remains an eye. After drying, the cuts of tubers are fed into the stern furrow, a width of ten centimeters in depth and five centimeters in depth. As soon as the plants reach a height of ten centimeters, they are planted on the bed.

Potato seeds are laid out and we can continue our work.

Fold a sheet of paper across and rather tightly twist.

We fold a sheet of paper with the seeds of potatoes in half.

Then we wrap it with threads so that it does not unwind and put it in a plastic bag.

One tuber can be cut into pieces that you plan separately. If small tubers begin to form, it is time to move them to another place. Right time  Harvesting takes place from October to late autumn. Do not collect tubers, such as potatoes, do not tear the plant. Just denied it - most of the tubers appear below the surface of the soil. Remove them carefully so as not to damage them. Damaged tubers dry quickly or rot.

Tubers can be stored under a cover or basement covered with soil or sand, or stored in a foil bag that is not connected to the top. This is necessary because they are free, and they will soon dry out. If you do not have the ability to store tubers, collect them during the winter or until spring, when there are not enough other fresh vegetables. From one square meter you can get from four to seven kilograms of tubers.

We wind up a bundle of paper with the seeds of potatoes and in the package!

It remains to fasten our package for convenience and put in a warm place. And do not forget to specify the day when our seeds are sown.

Our potato seeds are planted and still look like this.

There will be shoots will be required in six to ten days. Miracles from potato seed  you should not wait, germination sometimes is not the highest, but it does not matter.

In the meantime, the seedlings will appear, it will be necessary to prepare the containers for transplanting our seedlings, and prepare the soil for the further cultivation of potato seedlings under the lamps. The soil should be sufficiently nutritious and loose, so that our seedlings grow and are beautiful without any problems. Potato seeds  already in a home-made germinator, we are preparing pots and earth. And how events will develop further will be seen ...

If it seems difficult and incomprehensible to you, and judging by the questions and comments, this is so, then simply sow the potato seeds as the tomato seeds are sown, only to a lesser depth. Everything described above is more likely to take note of than the required procedures, BUT, you choose and if it seems difficult and unnecessary, make simple sowing in the ground.

    Fuck - Bach - Flood ...

In addition to the potato orientation, I will remember the spring of 2013 in addition to the decent flooding of home ownership during the spring flood, we swam for three days, after being dried. For this reason, there was no time to follow the sown potato seed. And they dried up - they died ...: (BUT, on reflection, I did reseeding in the “nursery”, but not abandon plans because of this. I sowed already moving away from the bitterness of flooding, because planting is better done with a good attitude, and the seedlings are already appearing, so that seed potato, but the truth is already re-sown and I grow it in the ground. A small addition to the seeds of potatoes sprout much faster in warmth and in the sun, it is necessary to ensure that our seeds have a moist microclimate. (An occasion to ponder whether it is worth hurrying with sowing?) On April thirtieth, shoots begin to appear, two weeks have passed since the time of sowing. The time of germination can be quite and significantly different, it depends on many factors, and for this reason it is not possible to pick one another in plantings. The photo will be in the coming days.

Thus, seedlings of seed seeded seedlings appear.

The following photo gives an idea of how our planting potatoes  May 18, 2013 before seating in individual containers. Moreover, the weather is rainy, but not quite cold and in our greenhouse potato seedlings  after the transplant will feel great.

This picture gives an idea about the roots of our babies, the potato roots are not thick, but very branched and exceed the growth of the plant itself several times. And of course they are very easy to damage, so you need to be extremely careful when separating the roots of seedlings and thoroughly shed the soil in the nursery.

The root system of potato seedlings is impressive ...

Our potato seedlings after transplanting. All potato seedlings started without any problems.

After our potato seedlings  grows up and wraps its roots in the whole earthen clod in a glass, will be followed by planting in open ground. The landing time is approximately mid-June, the soil will be well warmed, the weather will come to summer temperatures. But soon we will see everything ...

So our potatoes looked before being sent to the field.

This very “soon” has come ... Below there will be something like a photo report about the growth and development of our   potato  grown from biological seeds  collected by me from planting potatoes last fall.

Potatoes caught on and went into growth. During this period, it is necessary to devote time to inspecting the landings and caring for them most.

With regard to varietal characteristics. Of course these potato plants  remind me of those varieties from which the fruit was removed. I do not aim to rejuvenate any particular sort of potato. Showing the very opportunity to grow in one season seed potatoes. For what? There is simply a certain firm opinion that in one season it is only possible to grow so-called mini tubers from biological seeds, a trifle for   planting potatoes  for the next season.

Budding and flowering coincided this year with the flowering time of potatoes planted with sprouts. Early July.

Well, it remains to wait a month and a half and collect. Forecasts are not beneficial, so we are waiting for the fall ... One small note. Do seedlings from potato seed  for some reason, I always have less losses than from seedlings from sprouts. Honestly, I don’t know why, the conditions in the field are always the same. But, it is not critical at all and does not have the character of any noticeable losses in the landings.

And now about the size of potato tubers.

Of course, many are interested in the question of how much the tubers are produced as a result of the whole process of growing potatoes from biological seeds. There are persistent advice to grow in this way some varieties sold in stores. I use the seeds of the long-proven “popular” breeding varieties, I just like these varieties and are well suited to our figs to understand what weather conditions are, which is actually very important. Many hybrid varieties of potatoes obtained from the crossing of related species of tomatoes - just do not form fruits, and they cannot be grown from seeds. The yard is the last decade of August and it is already clear that the season for potato seed was a success. Harvest as usual is almost equivalent to the yield obtained from tubers.

Potatoes grown from seeds in 2013. Weather conditions from the very beginning stubbornly wanted to prevent, but the potatoes grew ...

My parents and neighbors do not believe that in one season you can grow such a potato from biological seeds collected last year from potato toppers. By the way, I don’t really try to prove and show them something. But these dimensions are not final, the photo shows the tubers from soaked bushes. (There are no signs of decay, this in itself is very expensive!) But their brothers still continue to grow and become prettier. In a month it will be finally visible what harvest they are ready for this year.

In the light of recent comments and questions, I’ll give you the advantages that I especially like in the way of growing biological seed potatoes. The collection and receipt of seeds are no problem and very simple. And of course, this storage of the seeds themselves, for example, the whole seed potato has disappeared, very rarely, BUT it happens. And there are seeds - you can always resume this variety. It turns out almost perpetual preservation of the variety. Another important point is that the potato tubers obtained in the first year are a supersuper elite, which is pretty good in itself. Many times I bought super elite and supersuper elite tubers, well, they don’t look like mine, kill me ... the pictures are beautiful, but in reality they don’t really. Now, that I don’t like in this way of growing potatoes. Even with excellent seed germination, there is a noticeable big difference in the time of germination (the difference is up to 10-15 days), and the size of the seedlings themselves. It takes time and place from another seedling, and to grow anyhow as
