For the cultivation of tall tomatoes most often used such varieties as: as "Alenushka", "Miracle of the Earth", from middle-late varieties - "Midas", "De Barao".

For example, only one tomato contains as much vitamin C as a person needs per day, therefore a tomato is a serious competitor to citrus fruits.

So, you decided to plant tall tomatoes. The technology of their cultivation has its own subtleties, but is not difficult.

Currently, there are so many varieties of tomatoes. Cultivation and planting technology different varieties  has its own characteristics. What is the difference between tall tomatoes? Their second name is indeterminate. This variety of tall tomatoes is distinguished by the unrestricted growth of the main stem and can reach a height of 7 meters in six months.

What are the immediate advantages of growing tall tomatoes?

  • the area for their planting does not take up much space, which allows you to save areas for other plantings and your strength and time spent on caring for seedlings;
  • about 10 brushes with fruits can ripen on one bush of this variety at once;
  • unlike other varieties, tall tomatoes produce more fruit, therefore, the harvest is higher;
  • these varieties can bear fruit for a long time, even in late autumn;
  • plants in their own ennoble the appearance of your site.

So, how to grow tall tomatoes?

Planting tomatoes begins in May. But the land must be prepared in advance, even in the fall. For this, the land must be dug up and fertilized with manure or other fertilizers. With the arrival of spring, the land is fertilized again in the same way, but with the addition of superphosphate (5 tbsp) and 1 tbsp to the manure. spoons of potassium chloride.

For growing tall tomatoes, seedlings are best grown a couple of months before they are planted in open ground (late February - early March).

You can buy seeds of tall tomatoes in any store or choose from the most successful fruits, if this is not your first experience of growing this variety. If you decide to grow the seeds yourself, then you need to take the most juicy and healthy fruit from the brush, put them on the window. When the tomatoes have ripened and softened, cut them into 2 pieces and select the seeds. Put them together with the juice in a jar and soak at a temperature of 20-23 ° C for 1-3 days. Seed should be washed only when the juice becomes light, then they need to be dried on a sheet of plain paper or glass.

Before planting seedlings directly, you must first soak the seeds in a solution consisting of 1 liter of water and 1 tsp. any composition of liquid fertilizers (can be replaced with wood ash). Seeds before soaking should be placed in small fabric bags in this solution for a day at a temperature of at least 25 ° C. Then the seeds must be placed for a couple of days in the fridge, wrapping the bags in plastic. In this way they are hardened. After all these procedures, they can be sown directly into the ground.

How to prepare the soil and make the landing?

You need to prepare peat, turf ground and humus in equal parts, add to the mixture based on 1 bucket of superphosphate (1 tsp), urea and potassium chloride (also 1 tsp), heat the mixture in the oven at mode 100-110 ° C for about 20 minutes, pour the mixture on a baking sheet. The thickness of the layer should be about 4-5 cm. Before sowing the seeds, the soil should be slightly moistened so that it is not dry and emptied into the prepared boxes.

Plant seeds better as follows. You need to make shallow grooves in the ground (about 1 cm), between which there should be about 5-7 cm. Sow the seeds better, keeping a distance of 1.5-2 cm between them. Then they should be sprinkled with a mixture of soil. Watering on top is not necessary. Install the boxes with seedlings where there is a lot of sunlight, and the temperature regime is at least 22 ° C.

When it takes from 60 to 75 days, that is, approximately in the first days of May, you can land the seedlings in the ground. To avoid various diseases of tall tomatoes, before that, it is necessary to treat the soil with a special compound - 30 g of 90% oxychloride copper, with which you spray the area where it will be planted, is taken for 10 liters of water.

Before placing the seedlings in the soil, it is necessary to make holes in it about 15 by 15 cm in size, about 20 cm deep. It is advisable to fertilize the wells before planting. Disembarkation is best done in a staggered manner, which will ensure optimal ventilation of the bushes and their development.

How to feed tall tomatoes

It is recommended to feed three times during the cultivation of this variety of tomatoes. The first feeding is carried out about 10 days after planting seedlings. Manure or bird droppings are used (for 1 liter of water it is necessary to take 1 kg of fertilizer). You can use and ready-made solutions, sold in specialized stores. Feed must be combined with watering seedlings.

So that the soil does not dry out for a long time, it is advisable to mulch it after the first dressing has been carried out. This means that between the bushes it is necessary to make a 5-centimeter layer of organic matter.

The second time to conduct dressing is better for about 10 days after the second brush has blossomed and ovaries have appeared on it (1-1.5 cm in diameter). In this case, the same solution is used, but there should be added the “Mortar” fertilizer (1 tbsp.), Potassium permanganate and copper sulfate, 3 gr for every 10 l of the prepared solution. On one bush will need approximately 2 liters of solution for feeding.

The third dressing should be held at the time when you collect the first fruit. The solution used is the same as in the second feeding, but for each bush you will need 2.5 liters of fertilizer.

If you note the active growth of the bushes after fertilizing, but the flowers do not appear on them, then you should immediately stop feeding with solutions containing nitrogen, and replace them with superphosphate or ash infusion.

Tall tomatoes are gaining great popularity among summer residents and gardeners. And the reason for this is the unrestricted growth of the leading stem, which can reach a height of from two to seven meters in 4-6 months. Those who want to save space on the site and collect excellent tomatoes in large quantities, simply can not do without tall varieties.

Growing tall tomatoes - the main advantages

Indeterminate tomato varieties have a number of advantages that can be assessed in the first year of planting:

  • the most important advantage of such varieties and hybrids is by all means the saving of land space on the site, since it is possible to plant fewer plants but not lose in the crop;
  • the use of vertical space allows you to increase the number of ovaries and inflorescences, and, accordingly, the yield from such a tomato is guaranteed to be greater. On one bush at the same time 8-10 brushes with fruits of tomatoes can ripen;
  • plants are evenly lit and there is a good access of air, therefore they are more resistant to late blight and;
  • fruiting tall tomatoes longer and can last up to six months, and when grown in greenhouses and compliance with agricultural technology, generally up to a year;
  • such planting tomatoes will decorate your site, as they look very organic and beautiful.

Method of growing tall tomatoes

Growing tall tomatoes begins with proper soil preparation and planting. It is possible to prepare beds in the fall. It is also possible to do this in the spring, but no later than thirty days before planting the seedlings. Since tomatoes love fertile land, it is recommended to add humus, peat or compost.

Potash and phosphorus trace elements should be made in the fall and dig. The soil is saturated with nitrogen fertilizers in spring. If the soil is clayey, apply river sand and dung so the soil will be more loose. If possible, sow a bed of rye or mustard in the fall, when the green manure grows and grows, dig. This will heal the earth and saturate it with nutrients.
   If it has already been produced and the seedlings are ready to land on permanent place, proceed to the process of planting. When growing tall tomatoes, it is very important to choose the correct planting scheme; do not place the plants too close to each other.

Planting seedlings in two rows in a staggered manner will be optimal.

When forming tomatoes in one stem, leave the distance between tomatoes about half a meter. If the formation will take place in several stems, increase the intervals to 0.7-0.8 meters.

Indeterminate tomatoes need to be burrowed, giving the desired shape to the plant. Many prefer not to do this, in which case the risk of increasing the green mass and reducing the size of the fruit and the crop itself grows. With too many tomatoes on a bush, their maturation is delayed, so many newcomers in this matter simply do not have time to harvest the crops by the autumn.

Proper formation will provide you with good plant growth and timely fruit ripening, and most importantly, gradual. The pleasure of growing tall varieties can be stretched for the whole summer and autumn, subject to agricultural practices. When forming tomatoes in one trunk, you need to break all the side shoots that grow below and above the first brush. In August, the stepsons stop breaking off and pinch the top of the main stem. Regularly spend, remembering that powerful and tall plants necessarily require fertilizer.

How to tie tall tomatoes?

Tall tomatoes necessarily need a support, it can be a trellis, cylinders or spirals of metal mesh, or strong high stakes. Lanes, according to experienced agronomists, are the most successful constructions for growing tomatoes.
   When growing plants on the trellis, seedlings are located closer to the edge of the garden, and the transverse support is installed in the center. When the tomatoes begin to grow, the rope is pulled, one end of which is twisted around the tomato a couple of times, and the other is fixed on the support. As it grows, the growing stem is twisted around the rope so that the plant does not break.

Material for garter plants need to choose non-slip. Use new ropes and garters, with the old there is a risk of disease. When tying the tomatoes, the rope should be a little loose on the trunk, do not overtighten it.

Now you know how to tie up tall tomatoes. Tomatoes require attention, do not be lazy, if you want to grow tomatoes to the envy of all!

Tall tomatoes are grown in. With proper care, they can reach a length of 7 meters. Another feature of crops is that fruits develop on the side branches and on the central trunk. As a result, the harvest is much more.

The growth and number of fruits is influenced by the shape of the plants. They pass air much better, which prevents rotting and leads to better ventilation of the plantation.

As noted earlier, tall varieties are more cost-effective, since they produce greater yield. But this is not only due to their growth. So, low-growing varieties give fruit only at the same time, while the indeterminate plants are ready to provide you with tomatoes throughout the summer. About that, in general terms, we told in our previous publications. Today, it will be exclusively about tall tomatoes.

It is worth noting that tall varieties are much easier to maintain. Do not bend down, and therefore, the loins will not hurt.

Top Grades

When choosing varieties, several factors should be taken into account:

  • taste qualities;
  • growing region;
  • yield;
  • the month in which the landing was made;
  • ripening duration.

In addition to all the above nuances, it is necessary to take into account the resistance of the culture to cold and heat. In harsh climates it is worth growing early maturing varieties. They ripen earlier, and therefore do not have time to freeze.

The only drawback of the presented varieties is the ability to harvest only one crop.

For the southern regions, varieties should be selected that not only tolerate heat well, but also bear fruit several times throughout the season. In this case, planting crops additionally is not necessary.

Since tall tomatoes are best suited for greenhouses, it is necessary to choose varieties for greenhouses.

Do not forget about the taste. It should be guided by their preferences. Take into account and for what you will use tomatoes. If for canning - some varieties are suitable, and for salads - completely different.

Imagine a number of varieties for greenhouses that have proven themselves.

"Jane"

From mid-ripening tomatoes should be distinguished variety "Jane". Its fruits have excellent taste and are ideal for salads. Among other things, they are well transported and stored.

"Miracle of the Earth"

Variety "Miracle of the Earth" is good for planting in closed ground. Its main feature is excellent yield. From one bush you can get up to 5 kilograms. The weight of an individual fruit can reach 1 kilogram.

"Red Cherry"

The variety that is best suited for canning is Cherry Red. He also has a good yield. Clusters resemble brushes of grapes.

All fruits of the presented species have excellent taste. Among other things, cultures are unpretentious in care and are not susceptible to diseases.

Features agrotehnika

  • Grow tall varieties is best on the trellis. At the same time, only seeds from the strongest fruits, which are harvested from the first brush, are selected for planting.
  • Special attention is paid to the shape of the fruit. If the shape is different - this tomato is not suitable for planting.
  • The seeds are removed from the fruit, cleaned and laid out on pre-prepared paper. Then dried seeds are packaged in packages and labeled on each name.

Select only varieties that meet your needs for use, yield and ripening.

Landing features

  • In order to plant tall tomatoes, the ground is prepared in autumn. To do this, fertilizers are applied as manure. In the spring, manure is also applied, but superphosphate and potassium chloride are also added.
  • Growing seedlings occurs 2 months before planting in the ground. Seeds can be bought in a store, or selected independently.
  • Before planting the seeds, they are soaked in a special solution. Take 1 liter of water and 1 teaspoon of nitrophoska, Agricola vegeta or wood ash.
  • Seeds are placed in special fabric bags impregnated with the specified solution. The temperature of the solution should be at least 25 degrees. After soaking, the seeds are placed in the refrigerator for a couple of days. Pre them wrapped in a plastic bag. So is hardening.

Soil preparation is carried out as follows. They take humus, peat, sod land - in equal parts. Then add a spoonful of urea, superphosphate and potassium sulfate. The resulting mixture is heated in the oven for 20 minutes. Next, the soil is slightly moistened and poured into boxes. The distance between the seeds should reach 2 cm. Watering from above is not performed. The boxes are placed on a sunny place, the temperature of the medium should reach 22 degrees.

What diseases should be afraid

If the culture grows very densely, an unpleasant disease like late blight can develop. Take care in advance to provide airing for the tomatoes, otherwise it will be difficult to save the crop. Not even chemicals will help!

  • When planting, the plant should be fresh. If you do not follow this rule, the first flowers will wither, which means good harvest  you can not wait!
  • When conducting fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers is to follow some rules. So, top dressing is carried out only in the form of an aqueous solution and only in sunny weather.
  • To ensure good ovaries foliar dressings are carried out. This means that they are carried out by the method of “spraying” directly onto the culture.
  • Fruit setting stimulates boric acid fertilization by spraying.
  • Flowering will accelerate the feeding of iodine. 10 liters of water will take about 30 drops.
  • Once a week, 1-2 leaves are removed from plants - from the bottom. It will not affect productivity, but airing will improve. It is best to carry out the procedure on a sunny morning. At this time, the wounds heal much faster.
  • You can accelerate in different ways: turn them towards the sun, make a longitudinal section of the stem.

  • Planting is best done in the afternoon in hot weather. So tomatoes will have more chances to get stronger. If the weather is cloudy, the landing time does not matter.
  • In order to eliminate the appearance of burns on the leaves of the plant, foliar dressings are carried out after 16 hours.
  • The choice of dressings affects the state of the plant. If tomatoes are pale and frail, a mullein feeding is required. If the tomatoes are too large, reduce the application of nitrogen fertilizers. Do the leaves turn yellow? Hence, there is an excess of phosphorus. With a lack of phosphorus in the lower part of the leaves there is a purple hue. Excess potassium is characterized by the presence of matte spots on the leaves. Lack of potassium - the leaves dry up. When the leaves are twisted, they increase the dose of nitrogen and potash fertilizers, and superphosphate is completely excluded.
  • Several methods are used to protect against phytophthora: infusion is treated with Bordeaux mixture and copper oxychloride.
  • Foliar nutrition can be carried out by superphosphate. Infusion is prepared 24 hours before use. To do this, take superphosphate - 50 g - and stirred in hot water - 10 liters. It is necessary to strain the solution before use.
  • In order for the fruits to be large, the plant must be formed. To do this, pinch the growth points and remove the side shoots.
  • Tomatoes should be collected brown together with the stalk. This will accelerate the growth of the remaining fruits.
  • During the removal of the stepsons, a 1-centimeter stump is left. Only so on this place  There will be no new escape.

Tomatoes tall varieties for the greenhouse are good because they allow you to get more yield. Optimal varieties - "The Miracle of the Earth", "Jane", "Red Cherry". Planting tomatoes can be done as seeds and seedlings. The soil is prepared in the autumn. Great value for growing tall species are feeding and airing.
